BANKING

Continuing with its Hindi overdrive, the home ministry has asked finance ministry to ensure that all netbanking web portals and mobile banking applications of nationalised banks are offered in Hindi apart from English, while e-mails and SMS alerts are sent to customers in Hindi as well.
ET has accessed a letter written to financial services secretary Hasmukh Adhia by home minister secretary (Official Languages) Nita Chowdhury on November 17, listing out a fivepoint agenda for implementation. Chowdhury has said banks offer various types of computerised services but the use of Hindi in the same is "not as desired".
The home ministry first and foremost wants ATM machines to print receipts in Hindi apart from English. It also wants option for customers to work in Hindi on internetbanking web portals. The home ministry has also pointed out that mobile banking applications are not available in Hindi and it also needs to be ensured that e-mails and SMS alerts sent to customers by banks should be in Hindi as well.

BUSINESS
eBay India, one of the earliest online marketplaces in the country, has slipped behind both Flipkart and Amazon on revenues from seller commissions as its two rivals along with Snapdeal have been aggressively pushing sales with big discounting events and high-decibel marketing.
eBay India posted revenues or income of Rs 107 crore calculated on commission earned from sellers along with advertising revenues for fiscal 2013-14, according to its annual filing to the Registrar of Companies. n comparison, Amazon Seller Services posted revenues of Rs 169 crore and Flipkart Internet that manages the portal reported income of Rs 179 crore. A year earlier, eBay's revenue was Rs 81 crore while Flipkart trailed with Rs 15.4 crore.
These numbers are not sales from actual goods sold on their portals but are transaction and listing fees from the sellers as well as advertising revenue which is the actual revenue of e- commerce sites. eBay declined to comment on its financials.
While eBay and Amazon don't disclose income from merchandise sales, Flipkart India, the website's wholesale arm, said sales more than doubled to Rs 2,846 crore in the year ended March 2014, against Rs 1,180 crore in the previous year.

INDIA BUSINESS
Google has launched 'Google My Business' app to help small and medium businesses (SMBs) of Rajasthan access their potential customers online.
The new and simple-to-use product has been designed to work across both desktop and mobile devices and will help the businesses to create and update their business info on Google Search, Maps and Google+ from one place for free both in English and Hindi, Suryanarayana Kodukulla, Head of SMB Sales, Google India said.
"Jaipur in among top 15 cities which contribute to 60 percent of SME business but still their online presence is quite low. Google's product will help them increase their online presence and get discovered by their potential clients," he said.
"The business owner can download a free app from the Google Play store and can update details like contact information, pictures and map which will be displayed in Google search," he said.
Kodukulla said the app was launched recently and has received a good response.
"The initial response is good," he said.
"India already has over 250 million Internet users and is set to overtake US by reaching 350 million Internet users but small medium businesses in India have been slow to adopt the Internet. As per an estimate, only 5-6 percent SMBs have a website," he said, adding the lack of awareness for the use of internet a "challenge needed to be addressed properly".

LOGISTICS
The Narendra Modi government’s plan to introduce the goods and services tax (GST) will allow the automobiles, logistics and entertainment sectors to reap a rich dividend from the rollout targeted for next year. But for petroleum, the wait will be longer as it is not been included in the GST framework.
The GST Bill is expected to be tabled by the government in Parliament after the Cabinet cleared it on Wednesday. Analysts and corporate tax experts said under the GST, the cumulative duty rates on large cars and sports utility vehicles would fall from 41-41 per cent to 20-24 per cent, making these the biggest beneficiaries of the rollout.
For some segments of the automobile industry like tractors, which are exempted from excise duty but pay four per cent value added tax, the GST rate will increase to 12 per cent. Overall, Mahindra & Mahindra would be a beneficiary because the company earned 25 per cent of its revenue from sports utility vehicles, analysts said. (IN A NUTSHELL: GST IMPACT)

MARKETING
Oracle on Monday said it acquired Datalogix, which provides digital marketing data as a service. The deal complements Oracle's acquisition of BlueKai and rounds out its digital marketing suite.
Terms of the deal weren't disclosed, but for Oracle Datalogix is a stocking stuffer that gives it yet another pillar to offer data as a service and another cloud product to sell.
Datalogix connects offline consumer spending data with digital marketing efforts. The idea is to track advertising, how it influences a consumer and the ultimate returns. Datalogix, which has more than 650 customers, has 1,500 data partners that track $2 trillion in consumer spending. Lenovo, Twitter, Ahold, Kraft and Ford are among Datalogix's customers.
Oracle's master plan is to take Datalogix and combine it with other parts to create a data cloud that can be used to better target digital marketing campaigns. Oracle on its most recent earnings call talked up the cloud as well as its plans to offer infrastructure-, platform-, software- and data-as-a-service.
