Two industry bodies representing several major
national and international corporations said that they are opposed to a blanket
enablement of differential pricing of data services, in response to a telecom
regulator paper seeking comment on the practice. One of them, however, said
that there may be certain situations that warrant allowing discounted tariffs
for some online services.
"The differential pricing issue is important, because it has implications for net neutrality," R Chandrashekhar, president of the National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) president told ET. "Differential pricing as a blanket enablement is out of question. It should not be done because it will completely erode net neutrality," he added.
Nasscom member companies include technology services companies such as Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys and Wipro.
The Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI), which includes members such as Google, Microsoft, LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter, said it was opposed to differential pricing, as it violates net neutrality.

COMMUNICATION
The
mobile channel is fast becoming an important component of business
communications strategies worldwide.
SMS
or text messaging has become an effective tool for business communications
because of its simplicity, ease of use and reach.
SMS
is available on virtually all mobile phones and over all mobile networks,
making it the world’s most pervasive communications technology.
According
to Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) sector statistics report 2014-2015,
local SMS traffic stood at 6.57 billion up from 6.55 billion messages reported
previously. Similarly, the volume of SMS sent throughout the year grew
significantly to 27.4 billion up from 24.4 billion messages sent during the
previous year.
Advanta
Africa Chief Executive Lawrence Muriuki says businesses worldwide are actively
pursuing text messaging to enhance engagement and loyalty.
He
said text message has stood the test of time and continues to play an important
role in business communication, despite recent debates suggesting that SMS is
dead in the face of instant messaging applications.
“Though
consumers are ditching texting for over-the-top (OTT) mobile applications like
Viber, Snapchat and Whatsapp, small businesses and large enterprises are
turning to application -to-person (A2P) SMS messaging as a powerful tool to
connect with their customers,” Muriuki added

INDIA BUSINESS
E-commerce
giant Flipkart on Monday came out with a new brand licensing initiative to ease
the process for international brands entering India and offer consumers more
authentic merchandise.
In
“a first of its kind” arrangement in the industry, Flipkart has tied up with
Viacom 18 for the licensing of three large brands -- Teenage Mutant Ninja
Turtles, Spongebob Squarepants and Peanuts -- for sellers.
Global
brands are constantly looking to partner with the most competent manufacturers
across categories, and Flipkart wants to become the licensing platform that
connects these brands to the most deserving sellers in India, the company said.
The
brands’ “core pain points” such as fakes and lack of transparency on retail
sales can be addressed effectively through Flipkart’s “superior analytics
system and the tight control” it keeps on product quality, the company said.
In
addition, Flipkart’s expertise across 70 plus product verticals will allow the
company to offer these brands in a more innovative approach towards
merchandising and sales, it said in a release here.
The
sellers, in turn, will have the opportunity to create a better experience for
buyers, by assuring them quality of authentic products and differentiating
themselves from the clutter on the marketplace, it said further.
LOGISTICS
Online
marketplace Snapdeal, backed by Japan's SoftBank Group and others, will spend
more on logistics and technology to better compete with Flipkart and Amazon's
Indian unit, its co-founder said on Monday.
Shopping
online is becoming more popular in India due to the rising use of cheaper smartphones
and e-commerce firms are struggling to cope with the growing demand and make
faster deliveries in different parts of the country.
The
e-commerce market in India is expected to grow to $220 billion in the value of
goods sold by 2025, up from an expected $11 billion this year, Bank of America
Merrill Lynch said in a recent report.
Flush
with $500 million from a funding round in August, led by China's Alibaba,
SoftBank and Foxconn, Snapdeal is now looking to expand its services.
One
area Snapdeal will focus on is to cut delivery times by investing in better
data analytics and demand forecasting, co-founder Rohit Bansal told Reuters.
"We
have done over 10 acquisitions and investments in the last one year, almost all
of them in the field of technology or supply chain and payments," he said.
"With all these investments we have been able to reduce our delivery times
by 70 per cent in the last one year."

Ten

officers.
Odisha
Police have preliminary information on about 2,500 missing children from the
