INDIA
MANAGEMENT
Online marketplace Snapdeal.com, promoted
by Jasper Infotech Pvt. Ltd, has bought Unicommerce eSolutions Pvt. Ltd, an
e-commerce management software and fulfilment solution provider, for an
undisclosed amount, official documents show.
Unicommerce will
be merged with Jasper, according to documents filed with the registrar of
companies. Separately, Snapdeal is investing Rs.25
crore in its wholly owned logistics unit, Vulcan Express Pvt. Ltd, taking
another step towards building a large, integrated logistics network. Vulcan
currently manages transit warehouses for Snapdeal across the country, according
to two people aware of the development. Snapdeal and Unicommerce did not
respond to Mint’s queries.
Softbank-funded
Snapdeal has been on a shopping spree after it received $627 million from the
Japanese investor in October. Earlier this month, it bought a 20% stake in
logistics firm Gojavas for Rs.120 crore. The firm
is also close to announcing the acquisition of online recharge and coupon
portal Freecharge, Mint reported earlier this month.
The acquisition
of Unicommerce will help Snapdeal manage everything from vendors to inventory
and from warehouse to shipment and returns.
ODISHA BUSINESS
The Odisha government has urged the defence ministry to advise
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for development of an airstrip at Jeypore
in Koraput district for commercial operations, said an official on Friday.
Chief
Secretary G.C. Pati has urged Department of Defence Production secretary G.
Mohan Kumar to advise HAL to develop the airstrip that would facilitate
transport of aircraft engines manufactured by the company at Sunabeda by air
instead of transporting by road to Visakhapatnam.
"The
development of this airstrip, including its expansion, will facilitate the
landing of Avro and other category of aircraft. The state government would like
to have the airstrip developed so that it is fit for commercial
operations," said Pati in a letter to G. Mohan Kumar.
Pati
said the establishment of various industries, including NALCO at Koraput and
HAL at Sunabeda area, would boost opportunity for commercial operation of the
airstrip.
The
airstrip is on the side of Visakhapatnam-Jagdalpur national highway and lies
between Raipur and Visakhapatnam air corridor.
SUPPLY CHAIN
In
the next six to eight months, online fashion store Myntra
is likely to roll out a slew of offerings around 3D technology, augmented
reality and virtual reality to enhance user experience as well as revamp its
supply chain. The fashion e-tailer, which was acquired by cross-town peer
Flipkart last year for a whopping $350 million, will also implement 3D printing
technology to boost supply chain and create prototypes of products in minutes,
a senior company executive told FE.
The
implementation of 3D technology in supply chain, which is expected to save
costs in double digits in the long run, may actually see Myntra create a
prototype of a product, display it on its portal and eventually develop the
product based on demand. To begin with, the initiatives will roll out with
Myntra’s repertoire of private brands, which at present accounts for about a
fourth of the e-tailer’s revenues.
“This
is one of the many use cases. We can show consumers products without even making
them. The entire value chain has lots of waste in our view. The technologies
will thus help minimise the gap between supply and demand,” said Ganesh
Subramanian, head, New Initiatives, Myntra.
“The
other use case is how fast can you bring fashion around.”
