Manulife Asset launches Asia Pacific bond fund
Manulife Asset Management Singapore has launched an Asian bond fund, which will focus on allocating assets to investment grade bonds in the Asia Pacific region.
The Manulife Asia Pacific Investment Grade Bond Fund seeks to maximise returns investing primarily in a diversified portfolio of investment-grade debt securities issued by governments, agencies, supra-nationals and corporate issuers in the Asia Pacific region.
Jill Smith, senior managing director at Manulife Asset Management Singapore, said this was its first fund to be available under the CPF (Central Provident Fund) Investment Scheme.
“We consider Asia an attractive investment destination as the region is expected to show 2014 GDP growth of 6.2%, more than two times higher than developed and other emerging markets. We see many opportunities to generate returns in the region based on the yield premium Asian bonds deliver versus equivalently rated developed-market bonds, generally attractive credit spreads and undervalued Asian currencies."

Maruti to set up brand centres across India to showcase its products and ...
Maruti Suzuki is on a drive to boost its image from being a maker of small cars to one that manufactures technologically-advanced vehicles across several segments. The nation's largest carmaker will set up brand centres at upmarket locations across India to showcase its products and emerging technologies.
The strategy assumes significance as the first phase of its Gujarat plant is now funded entirely by its Japanese parent,Suzuki Motor, through a wholly-owned unit. That leaves Maruti with room to invest its cash surplus of Rs 7,000 crore in other areas. Maruti plans to set up these centres at 16 prominent and strategic markets that generate more than half its sales. In the first phase, it has shortlisted places like Kolkata, Kochi, Chandigarh, Chennai, Jaipur, Indore and Bangalore. "The company is in the process of acquiring land across different strategic locations, which are either state capitals or located in the vicinity of its regional marketing offices," a senior Maruti Suzuki executive said. "Based on the successful concept of the brand centre situated at our head office in upmarket Vasant Kunj in south Delhi, these 16 centres would purely engage customers to our new products and modern technologies that the company plans to debut in India."

INDIA BUSINESS
Google launches indoor maps in India
From high-end global fashion stores to movie theatres and even supermarkets, Indian malls are rapidly evolving into
convenient yet massive one-stop entertainment hubs.
Next time you’re lost in an unfamiliar shopping mall, Google Maps can lend a little help. Starting today, with the release of Indoor Google Maps in India, you can access detailed floor plans for 75 indoor venues with just a few easy swipes.
Indoor Google Maps are like having an indoor directory in the palm of your hand. Detailed floor plans will automatically appear when you’re using the Google Maps app on iOS and Android, and zoomed in on a building where indoor map data is available. Simply zoom out and the Indoor Google Maps will fade away.
In some locations, you’ll have the option of using the My Location feature to help you navigate your way inside. "We’ve worked with partners to bring the My Location feature — previously available in Google Maps for mobile for outdoor spaces — indoors to several venues. Where available the familiar “blue dot” icon can help indicate your approximate location in order to help you find your way more easily. This means that when you move up or down a level in a building with multiple floors, the map will automatically update to display which floor you’re on. At these locations, you can also access indoor walking directions to help you get to where you need to go more quickly.

Bata India embarks on its new Spring-Summer 2014 marketing campaign from today, March 14, 2014, for its entire range of footwear, accessories, bags and glasses. The campaign features a 360-degree multimedia integration of TV commercial, radio, cinema, print, innovative outdoor, events, promotions and digital platforms. The TV commercial, which will be aired across broadcast channels, has been innovatively shot to capture slice-of-life situations in the lives of people through a literal focus on the footwear. The film uses a unique technique of following those real life moments by showing the action only from knee down. The situations captured include from the nervous to the dramatic to the adventurous, including a group of students eagerly looking at their exam results, colleagues watching a cricket match in office and a group of young girls enjoying their ‘day out.’ The film also showcases all the leading brands in their latest styles from Bata in an aspirational way. Shot in a contemporary manner and stitched together using fast-paced music, the film reiterates the brand’s presence in the lives of individuals, cutting across the barriers of age, a necessity considering the eclectic portfolio of Bata.

RETAIL
Indian retailers to get an online wholesaler
India's first exclusive online wholesaler opens shop this week, becoming the only one to allow retailers to buy products in bulk at wholesale prices. The wholesale site will be a part of shopclues.com, a retailer which is adapting to fierce competition in the Indian ecommerce industry.
"We could already see that a number of our buyers were purchasing in bulk on our retail platform. We decided to actively enable this," said Sanjay Sethi, cofounder and chief executive officer of Shop-Clues who described the need for a wholesale portal as "obvious".Among other things, the online wholesaler will allow traders to provide services to retailers such as credit and buyback of unsold products.
Almost all the attention of investors has been focussed so far on the online retail business, which is forecast by retail advisory Technopak to grow to Rs 3.5 lakh crore in 2023 from Rs 12,400 crore at present.
In recent months, investors have demonstrated their interest in this space by pouring nearly $1 billion into companies such as Flipkart, Snapdeal and Myntra.
Experts said the diversification to wholesale will help ShopClues compete with larger and more established marketplaces like Flipkart and Snapdeal. "Shop-Clues can create a niche with their wholesale trade and create leadership," said Ashish Jhalani, head of advisory firm eTailing India. "The wholesale market online has the potential to grow larger than retail."

SUPPLY CHAIN
Microsoft's Green Initiatives Stretch Into Its Supply Chain
Microsoft isn't only relying on energy-efficient cloud data centers and renewable energy to lessen its environmental impact. The company is also pushing sustainability within its supplier network. The company announced March 7 that its supply chain for hardware and packaging has been certified ISO 14001-compliant. "ISO 14001 is an internationally recognized framework for organizations to strategically manage and continuously improve their environmental performance," Josh Henretig, head of Environmental Sustainability at Microsoft, wrote in a blog post. While Microsoft already had strict supplier practices in place, ISO 14001 certification "represents a new commitment to minimizing the environmental footprint of our hardware and packaging," he said. Many of the company's business units, including global travel and real estate, collaborated to help Microsoft get the nod from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). "Working together, they were able to certify the entirety of Microsoft manufacturing and supply chain under one certificate," he added. The move burnishes Microsoft's reputation as an environmentally-conscious technology organization, he said. "Demonstrating the link between people, profits and the planet, the certification also provides our customers and other stakeholders with the objective assurance that Microsoft is responsibly managing the environmental impacts of our hardware and packaging products and enhances Microsoft's reputation as a preferred business partner."
